About Phineus

Phineus : Magician for Hire is the brainchild of creator Barry Linck. Phineus was created in 1987, of then a high school senior after reading too much of Matt Wagner’s “Mage”, too much Dungeon’s and Dragon’s and watching too much of John Carpenter’s “Big trouble in LittleChina”. Over the interviening years Phineus changed from angellic savior, to reluctant hero, to art student who finds he is a mage, until, in 1991, for a comic class at Edinboro University, he became part of a Husband and Wife paranormal investigations team, with Phineus’ sidekick and wife Sara. Barry produced and self published from 1993 to the present 27 + comics with our erstwhile heroes, garnering a small but rabid fan following.

BarryBarry Linck (Creator, Writer, Artist, Colorist,Publisher)

Hey, I’m just a 6 foot tall, ape descendant who happens to love to tell stories, what can I say?
Barry Linck has been producing and publishing comic books for well over a decade. As writer, artist and creator, he has continued to produce his fan favorite ‘Phineus: Magician for Hire’ and ‘Gil: The Walking Dead (or Vampires Suck)’, a monthly comic strip. Barry served as artist on ‘Khozyain Protocol’, and contributed artwork for ‘The Creators’ and ‘Reverie’. Barry collaborated with Brian Babyok on such titles as ‘Pan’, ‘Phineus: The Glamour’, and ‘Dark Time’ An avid fan of role playing games, Barry co-created ‘Backwaters of Mysticism’ with John Burris. Barry currently is doing the art chores on the webcomic ‘Weirdlings’ and working on his third volume of ‘Phineus: Magician for Hire’ and ‘Creephunter’ & ‘The Pocket Pulp Project’ with Mike Wood all while raising a family in Pittsburgh. I hope to some day sell out and have really bad Saturday morning cartoons of my stuff (they still do have Saturday Morning cartoons, yes?).

coffee_biggerBrian Babyok (Writer & colorist  The Glamour, Writer Ruins of a Moonlit Landscape, The Great Jaguar Paw, Last Days of Phineus)

Brian was born and raised on the outskirts of Pittsburgh. His earliest and fondest memories are of buying comics with his grandparents at the corner store. Through out his childhood he created his own comic stories. In 1990 Brian met Tim Aymar and the two pooled their talents. Brian dedicated his abilities to writing and Tim focused on the artwork. The first book that Brian produced was a space opera with Tim Aymar. A series of different books followed including ‘Tainted Blood’, ‘Fairhaven’, ‘Khozyain Protocol’, ‘Pan’, ‘Dark Time’, ‘Good Enough’ I & II, and ‘Phineus: The Glamour’. Many of these works were completed with the close assistance of other Pittsburgh natives Barry Linck, and Scott Hedlund. Brian has also served as primary publisher for the Strumhaus.com studio. Currently Brian is writing the webcomic ‘Weirdlings’ with Barry. My site.

MikeyMike Wood (Writer Creephunter, Pocket Pulp Project)

“Mikey Wood started writing and drawing comics as an excuse to buy weekend passes to comic book conventions. From his meager debut in 2000-something with SOLITAIRE: WORKING CLASS HERO and TALES FROM KIRBY’S DINER, Mikey has gone on to write and/or provide artwork for various titles of his own including LOVE IN A TIME OF SUPER-VILLAINS, LOOKING OUT TOWARD THE SEA, and BOBBY CARTER: CREEPHUNTER (with art by the one-man-house-of-creations Barry Linck). He currently provides the artwork for the somewhat successful indie comic HATE YOUR FRIENDS (written by Kristin Blank) and is the creator/writer/sometime-artist of the collaborative “jam” project PACK OF LIES: A POCKET PULP MYSTERY along with some of the Pittsburgh area’s most up-and-coming fellow creators.”

s_54fd2c6e17dbeda954e0afd31136481fMarshall Dillon (Writer Sara: One Shot, Letterer The Glamour)
Marshall was born in a smallish town in northern Michigan. His love for art and writing began at an early age. Often he copied pages from his comic book collection, or made up his own characters. In 1993 he co-founded ‘The Creative Comics Coalition’, a comic publishing company with three friends and toured around the mid-west displaying their wares at comic conventions. In 1995 he formed ‘Scrubland Productions’ a comic publishing and licensed apparel company with his future wife Dawn. They toured around the country hitting many more comic conventions than ‘The Coalition’, and actually gained some notoriety in the underground comics market. Today Marshall is a freelance writer, artist and consultant living in Michigan .My stuff.

ALANAllan Clifton (Writer Last Days of Phineus,)
Allan has recently returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh, completing an extended East Coast tour of mental hospitals. Although a lifelong comic book fan, he was tragically born with a congenital lack of artistic ability. When Strumhaus rejected him as an illustrator, he filed a lawsuit under the ADA, and obtained sheltered employment as a writer. His literary influences include Robin Masters, Lucian of Samosata, and the anonymous author of The Alphabet Song, without whom none of this would be possible.
